Posting guidelines
Keep it useful, keep it kind.
These guidelines exist so the answers stay good. Posts that ignore them get hidden by moderators.
When asking
- Be specific. Include the place, the timing, and your situation. "Best ramen?" gets generic answers; "Late-night ramen near Shinjuku station, vegetarian-friendly?" gets real ones.
- Search first. Use the search box to see if your question already has good answers.
- One question per post. Multi-part questions are hard to answer.
- Skip pure-itinerary requests. "Plan my 7-day trip" is too broad. Ask about specific decisions instead.
When answering
- Speak from experience. If you haven't actually been there or done it, say so explicitly.
- Mention when you went. Things change fast in Japan — a 2024 answer may not hold in 2026.
- Cite sources for hard facts. Prices, hours, and rules deserve a link.
- Be direct, but be kind. Travelers asking are often nervous. A short reassuring answer beats a condescending essay.
What we hide
- Affiliate spam, hidden promotion, or coupon codes.
- Personal attacks, slurs, or cultural stereotyping.
- AI-generated answers presented as personal experience.
- Disinformation about laws, safety, or visas. We may take down posts that could mislead travelers in ways that affect their trip.
